The Annual Budget Process

A hotel’s budget is the distilling of a strategy and business plan into a numerical format. Further, a budget becomes management’s tool to measure performance. Thus, setting an appropriate budget is critical to a hotel’s success. In this process, we conduct a detailed review of a hotel’s budget by focusing on the following:

  • Annual operating budgets are reviewed through quantitative analysis of all departments – with a view to historic and forward trends in the market
  • Annual Sales and Marketing plans are reviewed for appropriateness in terms of activities, timing and allocated expenditures
  • Capital Expenditure Plans and Owner Capital Projects are reviewed and recommendations made with respect to timing, costs and return on investment analysis where necessary.
  • Regular communication with the owner to coordinate the appropriate approach and strategies for the hotel asset.

 

Monthly Review & Meetings
Apara will meet formally with the owner and operator on a monthly basis to conduct a detailed review of the prior month’s performance with a view to;

  • Challenge hotel management where required
  • Provide a formal forum for strategic thinking
  • To discuss prevalent market trends and their impact on all aspects of the hotel business

Daily and Ongoing Activities

On daily and ongoing basis, we engage in the following activities:

  • Receipt and analysis of daily revenue reports and booking pace reports
  • Regular communication with key hotel management and operator’s corporate management.
  • Maintaining this dialogue is key to understanding the ongoing issues prevalent at the hotel
  • Ongoing operational analysis to evaluate strategic direction and performance
  • Review, interviews and recommendation of candidates for hotel’s management team where required
  • Regular communication with the owner to coordinate the appropriate approach and strategies for the hotel asset.
